Background

The founder of Doyle Opticians, Doyle Scott, began his career in the optical field in 1960, working for Shuron Continental (a division of Textron Industries) in Michigan, servicing laboratory equipment for optical wholesalers.  From servicing equipment, Doyle began selling eyeglass frames as well as equipment to wholesale laboratories in 1964.  In 1966, Doyle was working for Uhleman Optical, dispensing eyeglasses and selling and servicing ophthalmological instruments to hospitals and physicians.  Later that decade, he was working for U.S. Industries and oversaw and managed four wholesale/retail optical laboratories.  In 1969 Doyle came to Illinois and started to work for Scott Opticians to dispense eyeglasses and perform finishing laboratory work.  In 1974, Doyle had opened his first store in Winnetka, appropriately named Doyle Opticians.  The location has moved to a different address but is still located in Winnetka.

Since that time Doyle has been servicing the optical needs of the local community as well as several who are out-of-state.  With the addition of his son Shawn in 1992 (both of whom passed the National American Board of Opticianry Examination), Doyle Opticians is one of the few remaining family-operated businesses in Winnetka.
